Fort Castillo de San Marcos - St. Augustine, Florida.
The oldest stone/masonry Fort in the United States, in operation since 1697. Multiple countries occupied this Fort through the years. Under U.S. occupation, it was renamed Fort Marion, in honor of Francis Marion.
During the Civil War, the Fort was under Confederate occupation until early 1862, when Federal troops, with the aide of the Federal Navy, seized the Fort, which had basically been abandoned by the Confederacy.
This view shows the interior wall and stacks of cannon balls. Very nice overall condition. This is a taller than usual, early stereoview.
